Immigration: Let Them In or Keep Them Out?
Tuesday, May 1, 2007 at 7:00pm
UCLA Campus: Ackerman Grand Ballroom
Immigration is a hotly debated issue in America today. While some voices are calling for tightly sealed borders and restrictive immigration policies, others advocate a more open approach to immigration.
- What should a free country's policy toward immigration be?
- Is there a right to immigration? If so, what is its basis? If not, why not?
- What are the economic and social ramifications of immigration?
- Do immigrants take jobs away from American citizens?
- Are there values that immigrants bring that benefit America?
- Do immigrants impose an unnecessary burden on America's welfare system?
- Would an influx of immigrants irrevocably alter America's culture?
- Should we be concerned about overcrowding?
- What is the best way to prevent potential terrorists and criminals from entering the country?
- How should those who are currently in America illegally be handled?
These questions will be addressed in a debate between Dr. Yaron Brook (Executive Director of the Ayn Rand Institute) and Mr. Carl Braun (Executive Director of the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps of California).
Following the formal portion of the debate, the audience will have an opportunity to pose their questions to the debaters.
