Constitution

I. Purpose

A. Mission Statement

LOGIC's mission is to study, promote, and apply Ayn Rand's philosophy, Objectivism, both academically and in practice. LOGIC's activities fall into three broad categories: scholarship (including forums for discussion and study), outreach (including hosting speaking events for the campus and broader community), and social events (including activities that establish and foster relationships and leadership).

B. Programs

1. Scholarship: Providing a forum for philosophical inquiry and study for members and interested non-members

2. Outreach: Engaging in high-quality event programming and other public activities consistent with LOGIC's Mission Statement

C. LOGIC and Objectivism uphold

1. Absolute reality in metaphysics

2. Reason in epistemology

3. Rational egoism in ethics

4. Capitalism in politics

II. Board of Directors

A. Offices

1. Chief Executive Officer

2. Chief Financial Officer

3. Events Director

4. Meetings Director

5. Social Director

B. Hierarchy

1. The Chief Executive Officer has executive discretion with respect to all aspects of the organization and is responsible for overseeing all other officers and personnel.

C. Officer Selection Process

1. Offices are filled by appointment by the Chief Executive Officer.

2. Should the Chief Executive Officer leave his office without appointing a successor, the office will be filled by the next available individual in the order listed in II.A.

III. Membership

A. Dues

1. Dues are set at the beginning of each fiscal year by the Chief Executive Officer

B. Privileges

1. Membership benefits are determined at the beginning of each fiscal year by the Chief Executive Officer

C. Voting

1. All voting in LOGIC shall be considered non-binding and advisory unless specifically otherwise classified by a ranking officer.

IV. Miscellaneous

A. LOGIC is affiliated with the Ayn Rand Institute as one of their campus clubs, but does not necessarily represent or endorse their views.

B. Disclosure of Financial Records

1. As UCLA or the law should require, the financial records of LOGIC will be compiled by the Chief Financial Officer and submitted to the appropriate party, upon review and approval by the Chief Executive Officer.

C. Gifts and Contributions

1. The Chief Executive Officer and Chief Financial Officer may accept on behalf of LOGIC any contribution, gift, bequest, or device for the general purposes or for any special purpose of the organization. Such contributions, gifts, bequests, or devices shall be in conformity with the laws and regulations of the United States, the State of California, and UCLA.

D. Amendments

1. This Constitution and all official organizational documents may only be amended by explicit permission and direction of the Chief Executive Officer.
