Programs

LOGIC's programs fall into three broad categories: scholarship, outreach, and social development.

Scholarship

General Meetings

Every week during academic terms, LOGIC hosts informal, on-campus discussion groups that cover a wide range of topics. The purpose of these meetings is to introduce members to Objectivism and to encourage critical thinking about fundamental principles and applying those principles to contemporary issues and events.

Though most meetings are based on topics established at the beginning of the term, others begin with members raisig questions about issues they find particularly interesting. Topics have included determinism, concept-formation, self-interest versus altruism, theism, intellectual property, children's rights, sex, drugs, abortion, charity, and art.

Study Groups

LOGIC hosts more focused study sessions where participants listen to courses available through the Ayn Rand Institute, such as Logical Thinking, Understanding Objectivism, and Objectivism Through Induction. Members will develop a more thorough understanding of Objectivism and explore ideas in more detail than would be possible at General Meetings.

Outreach

Speaking Events

LOGIC regularly hosts speaking events to help expose a wider audience to Objectivism and the application of Objectivist ideas to current events. All of our events are free and open to the general public. In April 2007, we hosted one of our most successful events--Totalitarian Islam's Threat to the West--a panel discussion featuring world-renowned speakers Daniel Pipes, Wafa Sultan, and Yaron Brook. The event was attended by a full house of over 500 people.

Atlas Scholarship Program

Since 2006, LOGIC has given away over 4000 copies of Atlas Shrugged, The Fountainhead, and Anthem to UCLA students and event attendees--free of cost. We also promote the Ayn Rand Insitute's annual essay contests. The Atlas Scholarship Program is funded by generous contributions from the Center for Inquiry - West, Waleed M. Doany M.D. Inc., the Ayn Rand Institute, the Associated Students of UCLA, and our many individual donors.

Social Development

Social Events

Social events are planned at various times throughout the academic year and during breaks. They are a way for club members to relax, have fun, and take a break from the rigors of academic life, while enjoying the company of others who share their fundamental values.
