Introduction

LOGIC was founded in 2004 at UCLA as a student group devoted to approaching philosophy from a rational perspective. Because our membership was highly influenced by the works of Ayn Rand and other Objectivists, we studied and promoted Ayn Rand’s philosophy on our campus.

In March 2006, LOGIC registered as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation, and a joint event with the Ayn Rand Institute--Unveiling the Danish Cartoons: A Discussion of Free Speech and World Response--started a relationship that resulted in LOGIC becoming one of ARI’s most successful campus clubs.

Over the course of just a few academic years, LOGIC grew from a small discussion group of five students who occasionally wrote into the Daily Bruin to a powerful force on campus, regularly hosting high-profile events garnering audiences in the hundreds and continuously expanding our range of programming.

LOGIC’s long-range goal is to establish a culture of reason within our society. Ayn Rand understood that social change can only be achieved through philosophy, and that the philosophy of a society is determined primarily by its universities, making LOGIC’s activities at UCLA of paramount importance.

LOGIC takes a multifaceted approach to influencing the culture:

  • fostering the intellectual development of future philosophers, professors, journalists, scientists, and businessmen
  • exposing the broader community to a rational perspective in philosophy
  • cultivating friendships and professional relationships based on rational principles and values

In the other "Support" sections, you will find information about our current programs, as well as our vision for the future--the establishment of a permanent renaissance for reason, rational self-interest, individual rights, and laissez-faire capitalism.

Why Contribute?

LOGIC’s programs go above and beyond the scope of an ordinary Objectivist campus club--in type, quality, quantity, and target audience. But that broader scope comes with a broader price tag.

  • The average budget for a single speaking event is $3000 - $4000.
  • To continue supplying the current demand for the Atlas Scholarship Program will cost approximately $2500 annually.
  • Expanding distribution of The Undercurrent will cost about $1000 annually.
  • LOGICON will likely cost $10,000 - $15,000.
  • The OCON Scholarship Program will cost about $500 - $1000 per student.
  • Other operational costs (including HBL, web hosting, tee-shirt printing, and general supplies and materials) total approximately $2000 annually.

Although the Ayn Rand Institute helps with speaking events, it is impossible for them to fund all our activities, which are frequently beyond the scope of their campus clubs program. Unfortunately, the support we receive from UCLA is minimal.

LOGIC depends on the financial support of private individuals and organizations, and as a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation, all contributions made to LOGIC are tax-deductible.

If you share Ayn Rand’s vision--LOGIC’s vision--of a world of freedom and prosperity; if you value our programs of training the new intellectuals, of upholding reason, rational self-interest, individual rights, and laissez-faire capitalism, please consider becoming a financial contributor, either as an individual or a corporation.

Supporting LOGIC financially is easy--contributions can be made securly by credit card through PayPal:
